 minutes to curfew [open]
« Thread Started on Jul 9, 2007, 2:37pm »

Cassandra knew there were only minutes left til curfew, but right then she couldn't care any less in the world. She was too sad, lonely, a little angry and frustrated at the world to care whether she would get into trouble or not.

And why all that? Because her best friend's father had called him back home the day before to go somewhere safer. There was no safer place in England than Hogwarts, but somewhere else, maybe there was. And no, she couldn't even blame John, her friend's father. Cassandra knew the man well and she knew all he did was only to protect his son to his best abilities, but for Cassandra it all came down to one issue. That the only person in the school who understood her and still trusted her was gone now. Somewhere where she couldn't reach him, she didn't know where he was. It had to stay secret.

Cassandra desperately tried to hold back the tears that were threatening to leak from her eyes as she sat down under a tree by the lake and leant against trunk, but she didn't quite succeed.

"Damnit." she cursed and wiped at her eyes, her fingers coming away smeared with black. Great. Now she'd smeared her eyeliner. Everyone would so see that she'd cried. "Why does everything just have to go to hell just now?" Cassandra asked noone in particular and sniffled, a few more tears tumbling down her cheeks.

The Hogwarts grounds were dark and nearly clear of students. It would’ve been an odd sight if it wasn’t late at night, almost curfew to be specific. Most of the younger students had went in a couple of hours earlier and now the only people left wandering around were a few 6th or 7th years, most of whom were heading in. Among them was a petite 16-year-old girl that had a head of flaming red hair, marking her as a Weasley child.

Ginny brushed back a curtain of her long hair as she neared the school, frowning when a few pieces dropped back infront of her brown eyes and made it difficult for her to see where she going. She sighed, pulling a hair elastic off of her wrist and using it to tie up her hair in a low ponytail. Once Ginny could see again she continued strolling up to the school, pulling her light grey sweater closer around her as a cold breeze passed. She looked odd as she made her up to the castle. It wasn’t that her looks had changed much over the summer; she actually looked the same – though maybe a bit taller. No, what was odd about her was that she wasn’t with her usual group of friends. She had been by her lonesome the past few days seeing how most of her friends weren’t back at the school. It seemed the only ones who were still attending Hogwarts were Ron, Hermione and Harry, and they were the reasons she was avoiding the common room and spending all her free time outside.

“I’ve had enough of this…” Ginny muttered, kicking a rock into the lake. She watched as the stone upset the surface of the water and sighed once again, turning away from the lake only when she heard the faint sounds of someone talking. It didn’t take her very long before she saw the source of the voice. Someone was sitting beneath a tree a little ways away from where Ginny stood. The person didn’t look like they were heading in anytime soon. Ginny tilted her head to the left and began walking towards the person underneath the tree, hoping he or she wouldn’t mind company. The thought of going into the common room and being surrounded by rowdy students wasn’t too appealing to her right now.

Meleny walked out onto the grounds even though it was time for curfew. Meleny wasn't one to break the rules, she always abided by them. She looked up at the sky which had darknened to her liking, At night she likes to come out to the grounds and stargaze, it makes her feel at peace even though right now the wizarding world is far from peaceful.

Meleny sat down under another tree by the lake and turned towards the next one where she saw an upset looking Slytherin sitting underneath it. She also saw one of her fellow Gryffindors heading towards the girl.

Cassandra looked up as she heard footsteps coming her way. She could make out two people in the half-darkness and she could see that one of them was Ginny Weasley. The other, a girl that was coming towards her, Cassandra didn't know, but judging by the uniform she was a Gryffindor.
''Gryffindors ganging up on me or what the hell?' Cassandra thought and grit her teeth in annoyance. 'I don't want to deal with that now.' Cassandra wiped some lingering tears off her face, not caring whether her eyeliner smeared any more. She knew she looked like hell already. Getting up and standing tall and defiant, Cassandra waited for the Gryfiindors to close in on her, hoping that she could just get them to leave her alone soon.

Ginny passed someone who was heading in and watched as he gave her an odd look. He was in the middle of opening his mouth to say something when Ginny hurried forward, ignoring the boy all together. She could feel his eyes staring at the back of her head but didn't turn around. In the end she felt him turn away and heard his footsteps heading up to the school. Ginny nodded and smiled to herself, raising her head to look again at the person beneath the tree. She realized it was a girl and she was standing up now. Ginny squinted and tried to get a better look at her but something else caught her eye. There was someone else on the grounds, apparently wanting to stay outside aswell. Ginny recognized her as a Gryffindor.

'Well, if one doesn't want to talk to me I could try the other...' She thought, looking from one girl to another. 'And if they both don't want to talk, so be it,' She added.

Ginny slowed her pace when she was about ten feet away from the first girl. It was then that she noticed her Slytherin badge. Her fingers wrapped instantly around the wand in her pocket, but she didn't draw it out. Not yet at least...
"Hello," Ginny said to the Slytherin girl. Afterwards she felt like she could hit herself. She probably came off as quite the idiot in the way she had just walked straight down to the girl to just say hello.
