 through silence, alone >> Was

Cassandra pulled the cardigan of her school uniform closer around her body as a chill ran through her. It seemed unusually cold as she walked along the corridor back to her common room. Or was that just her feeling or perception? 'I do feel cold inside, I suppose...' she thought and sighed. It was her seventh year at Hogwarts now and nothing was what it used to be what with Voldemort restored to his full strength. Hogwarts was now deserted, many parents having taken their children back home, although everyone knew that Hogwarts was the safest place around. And many parents had taken their children out of Slytherin so they could become Death Eaters. At the thought, Cassandra clenched her fists. She was one of the few Slytherins who despised Voldemort. And would anyone believe her? NO! Of course not.

Since the school year had started, Cassandra had felt like the outcast. Her best friend's father hat taken him from Hogwarts to go somewhere safer and now all Cassandra felt was loneliness. Not many fellow students in her house liked her, as she was a quite atypical Slytherin, members of her family being in the Order of the Phoenix and Cassandra herself despising the Dark Lord and striving to become one of the Aurors to fight him. In any case, being a Slytherin was a bad idea at the current time, seeing as how most of the other houses' students shunned them and a general air of distrust clung to Hogwarts Castle.

Brought out of her musings by footsteps behind her, Cassandra let her hand wander in the general direction of her wand which was tucked away under her cardigan. She'd had the feeling that someone was behind her all along, but now she was sure.

"Who's there?" Cassandra asked loudly, her voice steady as she pointed her wand in the direction from where she had heard the footsteps. After all, at the current time one could never be too careful, especially as a Slytherin.

Was was merely walking around the school as he sometimes did before he was faced with this. a SLytherin girl in his year asking 'who's there' and pointing a wand straight at him. That was exactly wrong with this place now. This was supposed to be the safest place around but here we go. The fact annoyed him most that she was a Slytherin. They were the ones you were supposed t watch out for, not the other way around.

He walked more slowly. "Put it down. I'm not going to strike you down, tear you limb from limb or any other such thing." he said humourlessly. "there's no need for that. this is the safest place you can be. Hell, shouldn't this situation be the other way round."

he recognised who it was, he only knew her by her first name, Cassandra. Deep down, h knew that for a Slytherin she was alright, and he couldnt blame her for her reaction lookign at the resentment Slytherin's now suffered at the hands of the others. that only drove them closer to the bad side.

"It's Cassandra isn't it?" he asked

Cassandra sighed inaudibly in relief and lowered her wand, letting it disappear underneath her cardigan once more. She nodded. "Yes, it's Cassandra." she answered. "And you're Was, right?" Cassandra knew the Ravenclaw boy from some of their classes, they had never talked, though. "And the situation?" Cassandra laughed wrily. "I'm sometimes beginning to wish it was the other way round." she mused. "But it's not. I'm only trying to protect my back." Cassandra explained. "Being me is a very bad idea at the moment." she added with dry humour she didn't really possess. But seeing as it was either hiding and being miserable or going outward and being careful and a little less miserable, Cassandra chose the latter option for herself. It would not do for her to resign, it just wouldn't be her.
